Feeling close-up? Frederick photographer Judy Reisman will lead you out of cabin fever by taking you to the Lilypons Aquatic gardens in Frederick County, MD, only an hour or so from the DC area. There you will find a plethora of exotic lilies and other aquatic life to shoot. In addition to the flowers, there are landscaped aquatic ponds and many varieties of common and rare koi. This site is also a favorite for birdwatchers, as many winged creatures stop by to visit this water world.
This Safari will also cover macro and close-up photography. Judy will show you how to use close-up filters and extension tubes that can convert any lens into a macro lens. She will also demonstrate using bellows and a rail focuser for macro. Light modifiers such as reflectors and fill-in flash will also be demonstrated. You will be able to see a Lensbaby in action, and if your camera has a Nikon mount, try using one on your camera. If not, you can borrow the instructor’s camera and take a few Lensbaby shots, which will then be mailed to you. Additionally, Judy will show you how to use your own backdrops to enhance your photos and how to create “Monet”-like floral images in the field.
